What it was
An essay-writing assistant for university students: structure, sources, citations and feedback in one place. Built with my co-founder Justin, who also co-wrote The Ultimate Essay Guide with me in 2018, while we were trying to fix the thing the book was about.
What I took from it
We got into Ignite, raised a seed round and grew to 10,000 users. It ended for a duller reason than any of that suggests: the Series A did not come together, and we stopped in early 2019.
Build second. First-time founders suffer from hopium because the funnest part of starting a company is the early building. “Build it and they will come” is painfully true as a fallacy. Currikula was the third product across my second startup, and the one that finally made me start with the market.
